Visiting Café Calico in Geneva

Where is Café Calico in Geneva?

Café Calico's public storefront is at Rue Rousseau 15, 1201 Geneva, in Saint-Gervais. That is the customer-facing café; the Zug address in the company register is the legal seat, not a second café. Use the location page for current visit information.

Check the Geneva location

What should I check before visiting Café Calico?

The location page shows Café Calico’s regular weekly hours. Holiday and special exceptions are not published there yet, so contact the café before a time-sensitive visit. Seating, reservations and accessibility details should also be confirmed directly when they matter to your plans.

What does specialty coffee mean at Café Calico?

At Café Calico, specialty coffee describes a quality-led approach to coffee selection, origin and preparation. Café Calico names a Swiss roasting partner and offers rotating single origins. That does not make it Geneva’s best by default, and no single score can guarantee what you will enjoy.

How can I contact Café Calico before a visit?

Call +41 22 525 22 14 or email info@cafe-calico.ch. Contact the team for details that can change, including today’s hours, seating, service format, menu, milk choices and allergens. A direct answer from the café is the best guide for a time-sensitive visit.

Espresso, Arabica and Robusta

Is Robusta automatically lower quality than Arabica?

No. Species alone does not determine quality. Cultivation, processing, roasting, storage and preparation all shape the cup. Robusta can contribute body, bitterness and crema, while Arabica can offer a different aromatic range; neither name guarantees that a coffee is good or suitable for you.

Compare Arabica and Robusta

What is the best Robusta percentage for espresso?

There is no universal best Robusta percentage. The useful proportion depends on the coffees, roast, espresso recipe and desired balance of aroma, body, bitterness and crema. A 0%, 50% or other blend can work for a particular goal without becoming a rule for every drinker.

Understand blend choices

What are Café Calico's Alma and Pablo blends?

Published product information describes Alma as 100% Arabica from Brazil, Nicaragua, India and Ethiopia, with milk chocolate, caramel and blueberry notes. Pablo is 50% Arabica from Brazil and Nicaragua and 50% Robusta from Uganda, with dark chocolate, hazelnut and nougat notes. Confirm current labels and stock.

Which Calico blend should I choose for espresso or milk?

Use the published profiles as a starting point, not a guarantee. Alma's listed notes are milk chocolate, caramel and blueberry; Pablo's are dark chocolate, hazelnut and nougat. Tell the team your method and whether you want a gentler or fuller cup, then confirm what is currently available.

Single origins and pour-over

Is single-origin coffee better than a blend?

Not automatically. A single origin can foreground one place or lot and suit discovery; a blend can be composed for a repeatable target profile. Choose by taste, milk, brew method and whether you value change or familiarity, rather than treating either label as a quality ranking.

Compare single origins and blends

Can I try a rotating single origin at Café Calico?

Café Calico describes a rotating single-origin offer, so the producer, lot and preparation may change. Ask the team what is available that day. Products shown in older articles or store listings may no longer be served at the café or available online.

See current coffee choices

How do I choose a single origin for pour-over?

Start with current label information: origin or producer, process when stated, roast information and tasting notes. Match those clues to the profile you enjoy and your brewer, then change one recipe variable at a time. No country or process guarantees a flavour, and current stock must be confirmed.

Read the pour-over selection guide

Does the online equipment range mean pour-over is always served at the café?

No. Retail listings for V60, Chemex or other equipment show that Café Calico has offered those products for sale; they do not prove a permanent in-café brew method or tableside service. Ask the team about the current bar offer before making a special trip for pour-over.

Matcha

What makes a matcha latte taste balanced?

Useful cues include a fresh tea aroma, even dispersion, a smooth texture and enough tea character to remain clear beside the milk. Colour can be one clue, not proof by itself. Water handling, whisking, recipe and milk all matter; this is sensory guidance, not a health claim.

Read the matcha latte quality guide

Does Café Calico claim to use ceremonial-grade matcha?

No. Café Calico does not currently advertise a ceremonial-grade designation. That term is not proof of quality on its own; ask the team about the current product, origin and preparation if those details matter to you.

Learn how to assess a matcha latte

Can I choose a plant-based milk for matcha?

Café Calico publicly states that selected plant-based milk alternatives are available. The specific choices, recipes and suitability can change, so ask the team what is offered that day. Do not infer allergen safety or a particular milk from an older menu, review or product listing.

Brunch

Where can I check Café Calico's current brunch details?

Use the current Sunday brunch and menu pages, or contact the café. Café Calico serves coffee, matcha, pastries and savoury food, but the exact menu, schedule, prices, seating and reservation arrangements can change. Confirm those details before a time-sensitive visit.

Check the current Sunday brunch

Does the brunch selection stay the same each week?

Do not assume it does. Café Calico offers bakery and savoury items, but the exact selection changes. Check the current menu or the board at the café for today’s dishes and prices; a past item or cached delivery listing is not a current promise.

Check the current menu

Where should I ask about brunch allergens?

Ask the Café Calico team before ordering. Café Calico does not publish a complete allergen guide for prepared food, so ingredients, dietary suitability and cross-contact risks must be checked for the current item at the counter. No dish should be treated as free from an allergen without that confirmation.

Swiss-roasted beans and delivery

What does Swiss-roasted coffee mean?

It describes where green coffee was roasted, not where the coffee plant grew. Café Calico names Henauer Kaffee in Höri near Zürich as its roasting partner. Swiss roasting is not itself a certification and does not automatically prove freshness, quality, ethical sourcing or lower emissions.

Understand Swiss-roasted labels

Can Café Calico deliver beans to my Swiss address?

Online checkout is not available in this rebuilt site yet. Review the published house-blend information, then contact Café Calico to confirm stock, collection or delivery options, prices and timing. Do not assume nationwide shipping or availability until the team confirms it.

Review current bean information

How should I choose beans for an online order?

Start with your brew method and preferred profile, then read the current bag description and size. Alma and Pablo have published compositions, while single origins rotate. Confirm the live label, price and stock before purchase; a dated catalog entry does not guarantee that a bag remains available.

Browse the current bean range

Are all Café Calico beans organic or Fairtrade?

No. Organic, Bio, Fairtrade or fair-trade claims apply only to products that carry those labels. Check the current package with the café before buying, and do not extend one product’s certification to Alma, Pablo or the complete Café Calico range.

Coffee subscriptions

What is included in Café Calico's coffee plans?

The rebuilt site does not currently offer subscription checkout. Earlier Espresso and Filter plans are historical context only; their quantities, billing, delivery and renewal terms must not be treated as current. Contact Café Calico directly to ask whether a current plan is available.

How do the Espresso and Filter plans differ?

There is no current online plan comparison in this rebuilt site. If Espresso and Filter subscriptions return, compare brewing style, quantity, selection, total cost, billing, renewal and delivery using newly published terms. Older prices are not a current offer.

Can I pause or cancel a Café Calico coffee subscription?

No current subscription terms are published in this rebuilt site, so pause, cancellation, renewal, refunds and billing cannot be assumed. Ask Café Calico for written current terms before entering any recurring arrangement or making a payment.

Recipes at home

Which coffee blend should I use for the home espresso recipe?

Choose a coffee labelled for espresso whose flavour direction you enjoy. Treat 18 g in and 36 g out as an adjustable starting point, hold dose and yield steady, then change grind to taste. No blend or Arabica–Robusta proportion is universally best. Questions about Café Calico’s current products and blend comparison belong to the existing bean guide, not this independent home recipe.

Use the adjustable espresso recipe

How do I keep an iced latte from becoming watery?

Start with refrigerator-cold milk, a well-adjusted 36 g espresso and 100 g of dense ice, then stir. If the drink thins too quickly, change only one variable: reduce ice by 15–20 g, use larger cubes, chill the glass or reduce milk slightly. Do not lengthen an under-extracted shot merely to make more coffee.

Balance the iced latte

What water temperature should I use for a home matcha latte?

About 75–80°C is a practical home starting range for the 30 g water in this recipe, not a universal rule. Follow the matcha pack when it gives different instructions. If the cup tastes harsh, try slightly cooler water while keeping powder, water and whisking constant; change one variable and record the result.

Whisk the matcha latte

How do I melt the cheese without burning the bread?

Use grated cheese, medium-low heat and a heavy lidded pan. Cook the first side gently, cover for the middle two minutes to trap heat, then uncover, turn and finish until the bread is deeply golden and the centre is steaming. If the bread darkens before the cheese flows, lower the heat rather than pressing hard.

Make the grilled cheese

Can I replace the bacon with cooked ham, and how do I keep the egg muffin safe?

Yes. Replace 80 g bacon with 80 g ready-to-eat cooked ham, keep it refrigerated according to its label and heat it until steaming during assembly. Keep raw egg away from cooked components, wash hands and surfaces, and cook each egg until firm and 71°C at the centre. Refrigerate leftovers within two hours and reheat thoroughly once.

Cook the egg muffin safely

Which allergens matter in the granola bowl, and how should I store it?

This version contains oats, milk, almonds and pecans; packages can add wheat, barley, rye, sesame, soy or other cross-contact warnings. Choose oats specifically labelled for your needs and check every package. Cool dry granola completely before sealing it, follow the shortest label storage limit, and keep yogurt and fruit refrigerated separately; discard perishable portions left out over two hours.

Bake and store the granola
